Let’s get moving!

Blackstone, Gifford Park, Joslyn Castle, and Leavenworth / Midtown Crossing neighborhood residents: help activate your neighborhood this spring by pledging to leave the car behind and walk, bike, bus or rideshare instead.

Pledge today. Win weekly prizes!

Take the pledge any time between now and June 30. Simply by taking the pledge, you’ll be entered to win prizes to local neighborhood shopping, dining and entertainment.

We’ll email you a short online survey each Thursday to ask you about your progress – complete surveys to qualify for even more prizes.

How does walking, biking, riding the bus or sharing a ride benefit me?

When you walk, bike, bus or rideshare, you discover new parts of your neighborhood and meet new people. You’re likely to gain a fresh perspective on where you live and what is happening in your neighborhood and can better appreciate your surroundings.

By leaving the car behind, you’ll save money on gas and parking and won’t have to deal with the hassles of traffic congestion or finding a parking spot. You’ll also make a positive impact on the environment. With fewer cars on the road, pollution is reduced and air quality improves.

Choosing more active modes of transportation also provides many health benefits. You’ll build in physical activity that helps maintain your cardiovascular health, prevent chronic disease such as diabetes, and reduce stress.

Pledge Now

Encourage your neighbors to take the pledge.

Be sure to tell your neighbors about Midtown on the Move! Help us create a buzz on social media by sharing a great photo or a quick story about your experience using #SWITCHATRIP.

Check out these Midtowners who are on the move!

“I love the adventure of walking to work and to my favorite Blackstone hangouts. We are fortunate to live in a lively community with so many services close by. For those trips that are a little further, biking and riding the bus are excellent trip extenders for me.” – Phil, Blackstone Neighborhood

“I’m a pretty active person, but I wanted to add one more thing to my routine to receive greater health benefits. I decided to ride my bike or walk if my destination was closer than one mile. Walking and biking is a great way to meet people and find out what is going on in the neighborhood. The more people you meet in your neighborhood, the less scary it is.” – Margie, Joslyn Castle Neighborhood

“Walking, biking, and riding the bus help me think of Omaha as a tourist. Omaha is a neat city, and there is novelty to be found all around. You can experience a place in a completely different perspective when you’re open to it.” – Kevin, Leavenworth Neighborhood

“My wife and I love living in midtown because we’re so close to work, great places to relax, catch a movie, eat and recreate. We take at least one trip each week by walking, regularly bike, and we even occasionally ride the bus for some trips. We love seeing our neighbors out and about.” – Chris Jerram, Douglas County Board of Health & Omaha City Councilmember

“I love taking the bus! It is an incredible community. You meet people and see the same individuals who you ride the bus with everyday. It is surprisingly alive on the bus.” – Eliza, Gifford Park Neighborhood
